Jennifer Romero blog 11/10 and the photos

Today all seven of us took our first tea ceremony class. There, we learn basic tea manners. It was a traditional Japanese style room; with a tatami floor where we had to sit on our feet. And all of us weren't used to it but it was okay once the lesson had started.

There was a tray in front of us that had a bowl with ま茶; green tea, and a wagamoshi a kind of Japanese sweet made from anko; bean paste. One of the teachers came around to pour hot water into the bowls; where we had to stir the tea quickly until foam appeared. Then we moved the foam to the right of the bowl. After the tea was made, we cut the wagamoshi with a bamboo made utensil into fourths. We could only eat one, and then drink some of the tea. Then we were able to eat all of it, using one paper to clean the utensil and then putting the garbage somewhere in our clothes so we could throw it out at home. There was even a fan at the side that separated your space from your neighbors and acted like a fence.
I really enjoyed it as did everyone, since we couldn't stop talking about it afterwards.
Now we all know what to do if we have guests over and what to do and what not to do at someone's place.
